[Grand Rapids, Michigan 9/15/2022] Sanford Behavioral Health is proud to announce it has been named a Blue Distinction Center for Substance Use Treatment and Recovery at its Sanford House at Cherry Street for Women, and Sanford House at John Street for Men facilities in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

The Blue Cross Blue Shield Association designates Blue Distinction Centers as “healthcare facilities and providers recognized for their expertise in delivering specialty care – safely, effectively, and cost efficiently.” The award is based on meeting quality, business, and value criteria as well as outcome data.

Since 2015, Sanford Addiction Treatment Centers has had a mission to elevate the effectiveness and availability of treatment for individuals diagnosed with substance use disorders (SUDs). Particularly in the state of Michigan where there are gaps in treatment for addiction and co-occurring mental health conditions.

“Experienced medical providers and clinicians lead our programs. And our goal, based on our real-life recovery philosophy, is to determine a clinically appropriate placement for everyone in the least restrictive level of care. That is one of the reasons our recurrence rates are so low,” says Alec Green, Sanford Behavioral Health Managing Director.

All Blue Distinction providers must offer opioid use disorder treatment within the broader SUD diagnosis. Additionally, medication-assisted treatment (MAT) must be available to all patients with an uninterrupted transition, including MAT, from and to various levels of care (e.g., stepping down to outpatient from residential treatment).
