Residential Addiction Treatment

Residential Treatment provides structure and accountability 24/7 with 24-hour medical support.

Residential treatment means you stay on-site at Sanford Behavioral Health's residential facility for some time. This treatment is our most therapeutically intensive program and is not for everyone. It provides a structured living environment in which to recover and removes the environmental obstacles to recovery. Residential patients live at Sanford West Behavioral Health Campus while they attend group, individual, and family therapy sessions. Additionally, our patients receive medical and psychiatric check-ups and participate in wellness activities. This option provides 24-hour access to the support of our medical team. Structure and Accountability

Although it is a big commitment, residential treatment provides an around-the-clock structure and support that can benefit those struggling with addiction. This level of treatment is necessary to reduce the harmful effects of addiction and navigate the most challenging stage of recovery. Residential treatment is for individuals who cannot participate in or comply with treatment outside of a 24-hour structured treatment setting. It is also for those individuals whose current living environment presents a significant obstacle to their functioning and recovery.

When treating addiction, residential treatment relieves our patients from potential triggers in their current environment so they can more fully focus on their own needs and recovery. Our residential treatment program provides the maximum intensive program to address all aspects of addiction, including cocaine addiction, benzo addiction, or alcohol addiction,  withdrawal management, monitoring of medication, co-occurring addiction treatment and medical concerns, medication-assisted treatment (MAT), and the establishment of necessary coping and functional skills.

Why Choose Sanford Behavioral Health for Residential Treatment?

We are proud of our sophisticated clinical programs founded on evidence-based therapeutic interventions. Our highly trained, master's level team of therapists provides various therapeutic modalities that can be tailored to each patient's needs.

Therapeutic Approaches and Alliance

Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), experiential therapy, emotion-focused family therapy, Seeking Safety, and acceptance and commitment therapy are some of the interventions used in individual, group, or family therapy throughout the treatment process.

Medical Support

Our residents have the support of an entire psychiatrist-led medical team on staff and on-site. Sanford Behavioral Health is well-positioned to treat high-acuity patients with an integrated approach to addiction and co-occurring disorders, eating disorders, mental health, and medical conditions. Our programs are backed by a multi-disciplinary team of medical and clinical professionals.

Family Program

We encourage family members to participate in our virtual family programs. These programs include evening education courses for family members, intended to do the following:

  • Educate family members about the disease of addiction
  • Prepare loved ones for what to expect after a family member returns home from treatment
  • Connect family members to available resources in the community

A family program is also offered on-site for residential patients and their family members. This program includes weekly multi-family group therapy, individualized family therapy sessions, and a family day that allows our residents to reconnect with loved ones in a safe environment while being supported by our clinical staff.

Vibrant Surroundings

Sanford is located within a vibrant West Michigan community with a blend of local art and urban flair, as well as walking trails and lakeside excursions. The landscape of Greater Grand Rapids, with its medical institutions, universities, and busy downtown area, encourages those new to recovery to find a balance between treatment and real-life experience. Situated on 18 rural acres, Sanford West Behavioral Health Campus compliments the Grand Rapids facilities, providing safe excursions to those in treatment in all our programs.

Wellness Activities

Wellness activities utilize recreation, creative expression, and other activity-based techniques to restore physical and psychological health. Activities such as art, movement, yoga, spiritual growth, and therapeutic excursions can be necessary adjuncts to the more traditional therapies.

An Individualized Residential Treatment Program

Sanford Behavioral Health offers a personalized treatment plan to meet each patient's unique needs, goals, and preferences. Our team considers the individual's history, current circumstances, and specific treatment objectives to develop a comprehensive residential treatment program.

We are committed to prohibiting discrimination and harassment based on race, color, religion, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, or any other protected characteristic outlined by Federal, State, or local laws. That said, women and men develop, experience, and recover from addiction differently. Because of this, we have established separate residential facilities.

We also provide some gender-specific programming at Sanford West. Specialty programs in the Sanford Outpatient Center may also designate separate genders. Though we identify as a gender-specific treatment facility, we also treat individuals who are gender nonconforming. We strive to provide a safe and supportive environment for all individuals seeking treatment at Sanford Behavioral Health.

How Much Does Treatment Cost?

The cost of addiction treatment is an expense most individuals have never planned or budgeted for, and there are many contributing factors. The question of treatment cost does not have a simple answer; insurance coverage, financial circumstances, and treatment programs are different for each person. Sanford works with most insurance companies to utilize the best possible coverage and benefits.

Continuum of CareContinuum of Care at Sanford Behavioral Health

The term "continuum of care" means the delivery of care over time. We aim to connect individuals to the various parts of the continuum, based on the assessed needs, at any point in the recovery process. We offer inpatient programs, day programs, and outpatient care.

It also means educating the community about prevention, connecting individuals to the appropriate level of care when treatment is needed, and providing or connecting individuals and families with long-term recovery management.

At Sanford Behavioral Health, we create a consistent system of treatment that guides and tracks our clients through all levels of treatment intensity. Successful treatment of substance use disorders typically requires continual evaluation and adjustments. We're here to provide you with the care needed for recovery.
