Announcing Anatomy of Addiction Podcast!
It seems like everyone is creating a podcast these days. But that’s because podcasting is a wonderful way to provide information, education, and entertainment while folks are on the go. At Sanford, we take educating the community about mental health seriously. In fact, Founder, Rae Green, and other Sanford staff members are often “on the road” giving presentations to business leaders, therapy practices, faith leadership, institutes of higher education, and, frankly, anyone who will listen. A podcast simply increases our reach.
Anatomy of Addiction
Anatomy of Addiction will showcase leading professionals in our field including the experts at Sanford. And we will highlight interesting and innovative topics such as: book reviews; therapist, medical professional, and advocate interviews; advances in science and programming; recovery stories; and conversations with interesting people from around the world. Similar to Excursions magazine in tone and content, this podcast will take complicated subjects and “dissect” them into usable parts. Overall, our goal is to expand awareness and understanding of mental and substance use disorders. (And have fun while doing so.)
Who is Anatomy of Addiction for?
The podcast is for clinicians and other addiction treatment professionals, mental/behavioral health professionals, and Sanford clients and referral partners. It is also for people in recovery, the families of those in recovery, the sober curious, and those who are interested in a particular episode topic.
Why should you listen?
Listen for inspiration. Or for solid information about complicated subjects conveyed in an affable style. Listen to Anatomy of Addiction as an incentive if you are ready to change your life for the better. And of course, listen for the entertainment value.

First Episode
Our first episode, What is Addiction? Brain Science 101, will be live the week of March 14, 2021. In this episode we define substance misuse, addiction and recovery. And answer the important questions:
Why is it so difficult to stop using?
Our brains are telling us we need our substance of use to survive. Is that why we stockpile our substances and under-report our use (wine bottle boot trees)?
Also, why is decision making so tough in early recovery?
What are triggers?
How do therapists break through the defenses of those in active addiction?
And more!
