What is Outpatient Eating Disorder Treatment?
Sanford Behavioral Health offers comprehensive outpatient eating disorder treatment in Greater Grand Rapids, Michigan. Our telehealth programs, which encompass treatment, family, and alumni support, serve all of Michigan and beyond. Our team of highly trained professionals is dedicated to helping individuals learn healthy coping mechanisms and develop a positive relationship with food and their bodies. Outpatient programs are individualized and work with your real life. The program includes individual therapy, group therapy, nutrition counseling, and family support.
Sanford Comprehensive Treatment for Eating Disorders (Sanford CTED) programs provide structured therapy and support while allowing individuals to continue living at home and participating in daily activities, such as work or school. This level of care is often beneficial for those who have already completed a higher level of care, such as residential treatment, or those with milder symptoms that can maintain stability in their daily lives.
Sanford Comprehensive Treatment for Eating Disorders (SCTED) outpatient facility is located at our Sanford West location. Our outpatient center is a beautiful place to gather for treatment and community support. We welcome current patients, family, and Sanford Behavioral Health’s alumni.

Our Virtual and Telehealth Programs
Sanford Virtual Treatment,ย or telehealth, offers the same evidence-based practices that our in-person programs provide, but in the comfort and safety of home. Classes are text-based and conducted through video calls using smartphones or computers. Virtual outpatient treatment is real-time, with a masterโs level clinician as the facilitator. Programs offered virtually are our:
- Intensive outpatient programs
- Outpatient programs
- Medication-assisted treatment
- Eating disorder programs
- Individual and family counseling
Underย HHS.gov guidelines, our telehealth programs are HIPAA-compliant and insurance-eligible. Our easy-to-use programs include online assessments for entrance to any of our virtual addiction treatment programs.
Supportive Living
Supportive living for individuals in our outpatient programs is available for those who live far from the Grand Rapids area and want to experience treatment in person. It is also for clients looking for supportive living options other than immediately returning home after residential treatment. These individuals may live alone, or in an environment that is not recovery-friendly.
Sanford Supportive Living is located at Sanford West Behavioral Health Campus, close to the Outpatient Center. Living onsite provides structure and support before the independence of returning to day-to-day activities. Extra support can help those new to recovery practice their recovery skills and build confidence. Supportive housing can be a helpful segue while family members attend education programs on eating disorders and recovery.
The Sanford CTED Team Understands
The Sanford CTED team understands that every patient is unique and deserves a comprehensive and personalized treatment plan for their eating disorder. Therefore, our clinical and medical teams work together to create individualized programs that target all aspects of your history and circumstances. We also offer support and guidance for aftercare planning as individuals transition into daily life. Importantly, goals are set collaboratively between patients, family members and staff and are monitored weekly.
