Lisa Murphy Rector, MA-LPC, NCC

Clinical Liaison

Lisa Murphy Rector, has a master’s degree in counseling and is licensed by the State of Michigan. Her clinical background is in crisis work. Lisa started her career in mental health working on the Wayne County (MI) suicide/crisis line. She worked both on the phone and for a mobile crisis response team. The bulk of Lisa’s clinical work was doing psychiatric assessments in emergency departments/screening centers. For the past eight years, she has been a business development professional for mental health facilities.

Lisa is part of the Sanford Community Outreach Team; however, she is also a licensed clinician. Sanford has called upon her to use her clinical skills to help with some clinically focused projects in addition to business development.  Lisa says she is the “face” of Sanford in southeast Michigan. She is able to use her love of “connecting” to meet great providers for referrals, find engaging speakers for Sanford conferences and CEU events, and continue to do suicide prevention work in her local community. In her free time, Lisa loves to read and play with the family’s new puppy, Blue.

Lisa says, “One of my favorite quotes from Rumi is, ‘Just beyond ideas of wrongdoing and right-doing, there is a field.  I will meet you there.’ I think that speaks to understanding, connection, and humility.  I can’t always live up to that.  But I think it is a worthy goal. I think it is the ultimate goal of any treatment, also, to understand we are all just imperfect humans and to give ourselves and others a little break.”
