Alec Green

Managing Director

Alec Green brings creative and organizational talents to his role as Managing Director. He works with Sanford medical, clinical, and administrative teams to best manage all aspects of the organization. Alec says, “My passion is working through ways to reduce the barriers to entering addiction treatment. I love learning more about payment models and helping our clients navigate all aspects of their Sanford experience. And I also want to streamline the administrative requirements for our clinical and medical staff  – allowing them to do what they do best.”

Alec joined Sanford full time in May of 2016, armed with a BA in Political Science and Public Policy from Michigan State University. His degree immediately proved useful as he led the re-zoning campaign for Sanford House at John Street for Men. The renovation of the Heritage Hill, Hazeltine mansion became a 20 bed men’s facility, with unanimous approval from the zoning board. Alec is now channeling his duties toward all aspects of operations, purchasing, directing ongoing projects and new initiatives. He also provides structure and organization to both residential and outpatient programs. Spearheading such innovations as medication-assisted treatment and virtual addiction treatment programs.

It is notable, that before Alec was a full time director, he got his hands dirty learning all aspects of Sanford operations. This included bringing new life to the long neglected outside spaces of the historic residential houses. Alec ordered 220 arborvitae and boxwood trees from Washington State, and led a brigade of friends in  transforming the grounds of Sanford House at Cherry Street for Women. The resulting natural, green fence lining the property, has become a landmark feature of Sanford and all of Cherry Street.

Alec is a proud fan of his hometown, Grand Rapids. He is oftentimes out exploring new features of the city or fulfilling a request to show an out of town guest everything Grand Rapids has to offer. Alec also enjoys everything about the “pure Michigan” outdoors.

Alec says, “I love being a part of Sanford, because it is not just a place to work. We are a family. Everyone is dedicated to creating a warm environment where men and women can come to learn about their new life in recovery.”
