Job Description

Job Summary

The role of the Unit Manager is to manage and supervise staff, manage budgets, and communicate with clients, physicians, and staff members of all levels within the organization. They assist with medical care, medication administration, scheduling appointments, conflict resolution, and safety of clients.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Assists in implementing new initiatives, updating SOP’s and training materials, onboarding, and training Resident Support Specialists and Recovery Technicians.
  • Assists Resident Support Specialists and Recovery Technicians in all duties, as directed by the ED Clinical Manager.
  • Steps in and provides coverage in the absence of Resident Support Specialists and Recovery Technicians, as needed.
  • Aids unit support staff in completion of intake process and conducting orientation to premises for new clients.
  • Administers medications as prescribed by physician in accordance with medical procedures.
  • Assists with patient medical care as directed by the medical team.
  • Provides transportation for new intakes and clients’ needs, as needed.
  • Manages residential issues in cooperation with the ED Clinical Manager, medical team, and the clinical team.
  • Ensures Resident Support Specialists are CARF complaint based on training and safety drills. Tracks Critical Incident Reports and disseminates according to policy.
  • As necessary, works with the HR department to address staffing needs, concerns, and other employment related concerns.
  • Attends training and staff meetings as assigned.
  • At all times, observes and respects clients’ individual rights, confidentiality and adheres to Sanford’s personnel code of ethics.
  • Adheres to the established Code of Ethics, Standards of Practice, and employee handbook.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Associate degree, preferably in social sciences or behavioral health field, required.
  • Recovery Coach Certification, preferred.
  • Unrestricted Driver’s License and ability to meet driving requirements of company policy, required.
  • Current certification in CPR/AED and First Aid, preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Ability to supervise teams in different locations.
  • Knowledge of administrative and clinical policies and procedures.
  • Good communication and decision-making ability. Comfort in authority role.
  • Promotes an environment that enables innovation, creative solutions, and empowerment.
  • Skilled in conflict resolution and de-escalation
  • Ability to express suggestions and opinions with respect.
  • Facilitative skills (e.g., warmth, primary empathy, authenticity, etc.)
  • Attention to detail with efficient organizational and time-management skills.
  • Leadership skills, innovative mind set and ability to navigate EMR efficiently and effectively.
  • Complete understanding of different software platforms, such as EMR.
  • Demonstrates professional behavior reflective of Sanford’s Mission Statement, Philosophy, and Values.
  • Must be able to relate well to all kinds of people both inside and outside the organization; builds appropriate rapport; builds constructive and effective relationships; uses diplomacy and tact; can diffuse even high-tension situations comfortably.

  • Must be able to set and hold appropriate boundaries with other staff members and clients.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking is required (4-8 hours).
  • Must be able to adapt to the physical demands of lifting clients, bending, stooping, and stretching with or without assistance.
  • Must be able to perform repetitive tasks such as typing for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to clearly express and exchange ideas by means of spoken words to impart oral information to employees or others accurately or quickly, engaging in sometimes lengthy conversations or presentations.
  • Must be able to ascend and descend stairs daily.
  • Must be able to seize, hold, grasp, turn or otherwise work with your hand or hands.
  • Must be able to perceive sound by ear to interpret oral information from employees or others accurately or quickly.
  • Work will be performed in an office environment with fluctuating temperatures.
