Job Description
Job Summary
The role of the Senior Staff Accountant is to manage the general accounting functions including recording and maintaining accurate and complete financial records, data entry, recording journal entries, performing variance analysis, and file management.
Role and Responsibilities
- Maintains QuickBooks files for multiple inter-related companies including operating entities and real estate entities.
- Assists with preparing the annual budgets.
- Records, classifies, and summarizes financial transactions and events in accordance with GAAP and financial reporting standards.
- Oversees the daily processing of receivables and payables, intercompany transactions, and business line coding.
- Manages cash position by overseeing multiple bank accounts, assessing daily cash balance and reconciling monthly bank statements. Resolves uncleared transactions timely.
- Maintains the documents relating to entity structure and organization; creates new LLCs as needed to achieve strategic initiatives.
- Prepares month-end close for all entities with thorough balance sheet reconciliations and profit and loss budget-to-actual variance analysis.
- Reviews the monthly financial statements for accuracy and overall financial performance.
- Develops systems to account for various financial transactions including maintaining chart of accounts across all entities, maintaining fixed assets including additions and disposals, importing bi-weekly payroll with class coding and entity allocations, and allocating corporate expenses to related entities.
- Oversees the processing of monthly credit card transactions; oversee proper general ledger coding and compliance with internal policies and cardholder limits.
- Maintains amortization and debt schedules.
- Maintains vendor W-9โs and prepares annual 1099โs.
- Set up accounting systems and financial protocols for new entities, as needed.
- Assists with department protocols and internal controls to minimize risk and support CARF licensing and reliable financial statements.
- Assists with compliance and financial requirements relating to CARF accreditation, annual independent reviews or audits, tax return preparation, and insurance renewals.
- Assist the Director of Finance with annual, independent review of financial statements.
- Assist with various financial-related ad hoc tasks and projects.
- Participates in staff development and training, including staff meetings, in-service training and annual training required by Sanford Behavioral Health on a timely basis.
- Adheres to the established Code of Ethics, Standards of Practice, and employee handbook.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Bachelorโs degree in accounting required
- Minimum of two years of experience in public accounting
- Proficient in QuickBooks desktop
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word

- Skilled in exceptional communication, self-motivation, organizational skills, critical thinking, and ability to make good decisions.
- Skilled in mathematics and analytics.
- Working knowledge and understanding of accounting principles
- Ability to read and analyze financial reports.
- Working knowledge of project management.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality on all client records and business-related records, as required under HIPAA guidelines.
- Ability to work within a team setting and create an environment where all are valued and work together cohesively.

Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift 15 lbs.
- Must be able to perform repetitive tasks such as typing for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to clearly express and exchange ideas by means of spoken word to impart oral information to employees or others accurately or quickly, engaging in sometimes lengthy conversations or presentations.
- Must be able to ascend and descend stairs daily.
- Must be able to seize, hold, grasp, turn or otherwise work with your hand or hands.
- Must be able to perceive sound by ear to interpret oral information from employees or others accurately or quickly.
