Job Description
Job Summary
The role of the Registered Dietitian is to create a nutrition plan to improve the health and physical condition of patients. Duties include, but are not limited to, analyzing a patientโs health status, goals, and dietary restrictions while maintaining progress and providing educational tools for clients to use.
Role and Responsibilities
- Provides support for carrying out overall program and adherence to rules, local, state and accreditation regulations and standards.
- Provides nutritional therapy, education, and supervision in groups, individual, and family settings for up to 25 billable hours per week.
- Provides supervision and support for clients during meals and snacks, as needed.
- Delivers services within a person-centered approach that is intended for motivating the client to continue treatment and follow through with treatment recommendations.
- Ensures that all documentation of services is completed within 24 hours of services being rendered.
- Presents education to clients, families, and community members related to eating disorders.
- Orders groceries for RTC, PHP, IOP, and cooking groups.
- Coordinates care with other providers both within and outside of Sanford.
- Provides meal preparation and support training to staff, as needed.
- Coordinates meal plans with the Sanford culinary team as well as providing consultation with the culinary team, as needed.
- Maintains all continuing education requirements and license/certification requirements for practicing in the state of Michigan.
- Adheres to the established Code of Ethics, Standards of Practice, and employee handbook.
- Actively engages with the milieu during periods of downtime.
- Performs other duties, as assigned.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Bachelorโs degree in Nutrition, required
- Masterโs degree in Nutrition, preferred.
- Registered Dietitian license/certification, required.
- Experience with HAES and Intuitive Eating models, preferred.
- One (1) or more years of experience providing nutritional therapy for clients with eating disorders in IOP or higher level of care, preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/abilities
- Good communication skills, self-motivation, good leadership potential, knowledge of case management, and good decision-making ability.
- Ability to work with a team milieu approach to treatment.
- Knowledge of community resources.
- Knowledge or experience with eating disorders.
- Knowledge of counseling theories and interpersonal dynamics.
- Ability to identify own strengths and areas of improvement and communicate needs to supervisor.
- Ability to adhere to and knowledge of all HIPAA guidelines.
- Knowledge of HAES, ACT, and DBT models.
- Demonstrates professional behavior reflective of Sanfordโs Mission Statement, Philosophy, and Values.
- Must be able to relate well to all kinds of people both inside and outside the organization; builds appropriate rapport; builds constructive and effective relationships; uses diplomacy and tact; can diffuse even high-tension situations comfortably.

Physical Requirements
- Periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer (5+ hours).
- Prolonged periods of standing and walking are required (1-3 hours).
- Must be able to lift 35 pounds.
- Must be able to adapt to the physical demands of lifting clients, bending, stooping, and stretching with or without assistance.
- Must be able to perform repetitive tasks such as typing for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to clearly express and exchange ideas by means of spoken words to impart oral information to employees or others accurately or quickly, engaging in sometimes lengthy conversations or presentations.
- Must be able to ascend and descend stairs daily.
- Must be able to seize, hold, grasp, turn or otherwise work with your hand or hands.
- Must be able to perceive sound by ear to interpret oral information from employees or others accurately or quickly.
- Work will be performed in an office environment with fluctuating temperatures.
