Intensive Outpatient Program

a man with glasses sits and is talking to his therapist in his intensive outpatient program and the therapist listens and takes notes downIf someone is working to overcome an addiction to drugs or alcohol, they’ll find many addiction treatment programs available. Because recovery is one of the most important decisions someone can make, they should choose carefully. Some people may be able to immerse themselves in the recovery process by going to a residential treatment facility.

However, this option may not be possible if they have to go to work or school or need to help care for their loved ones. If this is the case for you, an intensive outpatient program (IOP), such as the one at Sanford Behavioral Health, could be a good choice. Call us today at 616.202.3326 to determine if you or a loved one is a good fit for our intensive outpatient program.

What Is an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)?

An intensive outpatient program is a level of care that involves attending treatment during the day and returning to the home environment. Patients often step down or move through lower levels of care as they transition out of other treatment programs, such as detox, residential treatment, or a partial hospitalization program (PHP). When they’re ready to get back to the day-to-day routine, an IOP is an excellent option.

It can be a part of the treatment plan for a range of substance use disorders, including:

  • Alcohol addiction
  • Opioid addiction
  • Benzodiazepine addiction
  • Amphetamine addiction
  • Meth addiction

However, this may not be the best treatment option to begin the recovery process. It is important to work with a specialist to determine the best course of treatment.

How Long Does Our Intensive Outpatient Program in Marne, Michigan Last?

The amount of time you’d spend in treatment varies from treatment center to treatment center. Sanford Behavioral Health involves ten hours a week, during which patients will engage in various therapies, including individual therapy. Our experts say that an IOP is ideal for you if you’re at the point in the recovery process where you’re confident in your return to normal life.

With the help of an IOP, patients can process their unique challenges and create viable and workable plans for potentially triggering situations in the future. At the same time, you’ll receive individual therapy, which can help them learn to make autonomous decisions. Through treatment, they can receive guidance and support as they regain control of their lives.
