Frequently Asked Questions

What does your hiring process look like?

The hiring process consists of a phone screen, a virtual or in-person interview, and a follow-up interview (as needed). Depending on the level of the open position, a third interview may be required. Once the offer is made and accepted, a criminal background check is run. Just so you know, all offer letters are contingent upon the results of the background check. Human Resources will contact the applicant when the results of the background check are back to inform them of a potential start date!

Where are you located?

Sanford Behavioral Health’s campus is 14 minutes from downtown Grand Rapids. Marne is a small town: home to the Berlin Raceway and Berlin Fair. Three restaurants are located in the heart of downtown Marne, and a convenience store is just down the street. Our address is 15146 16th Ave, Marne, MI 49435.

Are employees required to be vaccinated?

Sanford Behavioral Health does not require any vaccinations for employees, though it is encouraged that they be vaccinated as they may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens while working on a unit. Sanford does offer the Hepatitis B vaccination for all new hires who may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens. We also offer the flu vaccination annually to all staff who would like to receive their flu vaccine.

What does your onboarding process look like?
During your first day, you can expect to work with Human Resources for approximately 5-6 hours. This timeframe will cover completing the required documentation, a tour of the facility, required CARF training, and learning the HRIS system. Lunch is included for all new hires! You will also get to meet with your supervisor and review your training schedule. You will receive a new-hire binder containing a training checklist that you will complete as you are learning your role. After the training checklist is complete, you will review it with your supervisor prior to graduating from the training schedule.

What is your dress code?

Personal appearance reflects on the reputation, integrity, and public image of Sanford Behavioral Health. All employees are required to report to work neatly groomed and dressed. The dress code established for all employees has been designated as smart casual. Smart casual attire includes clean and pressed collared shirts, blouses, sweaters, and sweater sets. Skirts and dresses should be a reasonable length (no miniskirts). Pants should be clean, pressed, and full length. Clothing should not be tattered/torn, revealing, or contain inappropriate slogans or logos (fashion logos are acceptable). Jeans may be worn but should be in good condition (free of holes), setting a professional image.

Depending on the job, some positions may require wearing uniforms or protective safety clothing and equipment. Nursing staff are required to wear scrubs, which allows patients to easily identify medical staff who may be able to help them in an emergency situation and to identify if someone other than a nurse is accessing stored medications. Sanford encourages the nursing staff to select colors and patterns that are pleasing to the employee.
