Sam Domine
Human Resources Manager
Sam has a BA in Business Management and is a Certified Recovery Coach. She started her career at Sanford House at Cherry Street in downtown Grand Rapids, where a fellow direct care staff member recruited her. Sam was attracted to Sanford based on what she heard from peers in the recovery community. She wanted to give back what was so freely given to her,ย and she is grateful for the personal and professional growth opportunities that Sanford has provided. ย
Sam says she has the privilege of being involved in the day-to-day administrative operations of this “rockinโ facility.” The Sanford team is passionate, dedicated, and dynamic. Her work is engaging because no day is ever the same, and she’s able to work with individuals who think like she does. Sam collaborates with others and develops a company culture that makes providing treatment enjoyable and rewarding. Her goal is to remain approachable while serving as a positive, energetic example of how recovery can be fulfilling and satisfying, especially in the workplace.
For Sam, family comes first! Home improvement projects are never-ending (but oh-so-fun, educational, and satisfying). She thrives in the warm weather and “digs monotonous tasks” like mowing my lawn. She loves to read fiction while relaxing in a hammock or discovering new trails with her dog, Grover. ย ย
Sam says, “This is not an original idea, but itโs been reiterated to me by therapists, supervisors, and family members: If youโre uncomfortable, that means youโre growing. Early recovery is uncomfortable, sitting with feelings is uncomfortable, not being able to numb is uncomfortable, going to 12-step meetings and making all new friends is weird, but youโre growing every step of the way. Itโs going to feel awkward, but I promise the freedom is worth it.”
