Lisa Smith, M.D.

Family Medicine Physician

Dr. Lisa Smith received her medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine. She completed her residency in Family Medicine at Grand Rapids Medical Education and Research Center through Michigan State University. She is Board Certified in Family Medicine 2005 to present.

Dr. Smith joined Sanford Behavioral Health, because she started to see the growing problem of substance abuse in her practice and community, and felt strongly that she wanted to play a role in the treatment of SUD. She found the work both challenging and rewarding and wanted to pursue it further. Dr, Smith has a dear friend who is in recovery and introduced her to Sanford; he made the appropriate introductions that lead to this wonderful opportunity to be part of the solution to substance use disorder.

Her role at Sanford is not only medical detox and rehabilitation, but also care of other medical problems that co-occur with substance use. Dr. Smith’s background in primary care has positioned her to be able to recognize and treat a wide range of medical problems, And also, to help ensure that detox and rehabilitation are successful.

Dr. Smith says her favorite thing to do is to travel with her family. She is looking forward to an upcoming stay on the coast of Maine.
