Joe DeLong, MA

Clinical Therapist

Joe DeLong  received his undergraduate degree in Communication and Psychology from Tulane University. He also achieved a Master of Arts in Addiction Counseling- Advanced Practice from Hazelden Betty Ford Graduate School of Addiction Studies. Joe found Sanford Behavioral Health by way of his first internship with Hazelden Betty Ford in Center City, Minnesota. His fiancé is from Michigan, and the couple knew they wanted to move to Grand Rapids after Joe completed his schooling to be close to her relatives.

Joe flew to Grand Rapids to shadow the team at Sanford Outpatient Center in April of 2021. He was instantly impressed with the team and quality of care offered. As a result, Joe completed his final internship at Sanford, and the rest is history! Joe says he loves people and their personal stories. Happily, his job working as a clinician affords him the opportunity to meet new and interesting clients on a consistent basis.

The teamwork at Sanford provides the type of ever-changing challenges and learning opportunities that keep Joe engaged creatively and satisfied. When he is not working, Joe enjoys cycling, golf, travel, and getting together with his wife, family and their new puppy, Milo!

Joe says, “I am blessed to be able to play a small but important role as counselor to our clients. Especially during a pivotal time of emotional growth and healing. These individuals have the potential to live the life of their dreams. So, to witness these brave souls taking the scary but rewarding leap of faith to break away from familiar, destructive patterns and embark on a new path of recovery is both rewarding and invigorating.”
