Job Description
Job Summary
The Medical Assistant - Spravato is responsible for implementing and coordinating patient care during all phases of Spravato treatment. This role is also responsible for collaborating with other Sanford departments and the Spravato Clinical Team to provide optimal patient care and efficient patient flow. This includes developing effective and efficient systems to provide service for our patients at Spravato treatment sites.
Role and Responsibilities
- Collaborates with other teams and departments on clinic operations and patient scheduling.
- Provides direct patient care and care management services.
- Coordinates pre-authorization and medication ordering.
- Completes documentation in the required timeframe.
- Observes self-administration of Spravato and closely monitors clients for an allotted timeframe.
- Facilitates delivery and storage of specialty pharmacy medications ordered by the provider and maintains appropriate count sheets.
- Communicates with the pharmacy regarding orders, delivery, and prior authorizations for medications.
- Rooms patients and prepares them for visit with the provider.
- Administers testing, collecting, and preparing of laboratory specimens.
- Documents medical notes, vitals, lab results, medication changes, from outside facilities, and other pertinent information in the EMR and communicates any abnormalities or medical concerns to the provider.
- Communicates client concerns to the provider, including medication effectiveness, change in symptoms, side effects, and/or abnormal vital signs, etc.
- Assists with providerโs schedule for seeing patients.
- Educates clients and staff on safe medication administration and management.
- Provides training to new hires.
- Adheres to established Code of Ethics, Standards of Practice, Patient Centered Philosophy and employee handbook.
- Adheres to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements to ensure HIPAA, universal precautions, safety standards and organizational protocols are followed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Registered or Certified Medical Assistant (RMA/CMA), required
- 2 years of outpatient medical assistant experience, preferred.
- Current CPR certification or willingness to obtain certification within 30 of employment, required.
- Valid Driverโs License required.
Knowledge/Skills/abilities
- Understanding of medical process, policies, and procedures.
- Knowledge of substance use disorders, mental health illnesses and associated treatments.
- Communication skills, self-motivation, organizational skills, critical thinking, and effective decision-making abilities.
- Attention to detail and efficient time-management skills.
- Experience with conflict resolution.
- Medication administration experience and proficiency.
- Ability to adhere to and knowledge of all HIPAA guidelines.
- Ability to identify own strengths and areas of improvement and communicate needs to supervisor.
- Ability to utilize an electronic medical record (EMR) for all documentation.
- Ability to proficiently use various computer programs daily (i.e., email, SharePoint, etc.)
- Competency in completing clinical tasks including medication administration, venipuncture and specimen processing preferred.
- Knowledge of safety hazards and precautions to maintain a safe work environment.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and medications used in the treatment of substance use disorders.
- Ability to take accurate vitals.
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.

Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Prolonged periods of standing and walking.
- Must be able to lift 15 pounds.
- Must be able to ascend and descend stairs daily.
- Must be able to seize, hold, grasp, turn or otherwise work with your hand or hands.
- Must be able to perceive sound by ear to interpret oral information from employees or others accurately or quickly.
- Work will be performed in an office environment with fluctuating temperatures.
