Job Description

Job Summary

The Human Resources Generalist will be responsible for the daily functions of the Human Resource (HR) department including, but not limited to, leave management, benefit administration, disciplinary action, workers compensation administration, performance management, safety administration, and enforcing company policies and practices.

โ€‹โ€‹Role and Responsibilitiesโ€‹

  • Serves as a point of contact for employee inquiries and concerns, fostering a positive workplace environment.
  • Develops and oversees the execution of disciplinary documents and performance improvement plans.
  • Oversees the recruitment process, including job postings, candidate screening, interviewing, and onboarding.
  • Collaborates with managers to identify staffing needs.
  • Works closely with the Compliance Specialist to meet the CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) requirements.
  • Completes offboarding, including exit interviews and retrieving company property.
  • Performs investigations, in coordination with the HR Manager.
  • Interprets and explains human resource policies, procedures, laws, standards and regulations to managers and staff as needed.
  • Participates in developing organizational guidelines and procedures.
  • Consults with managers on employee issues and provides guidance within the scope of policies, procedures, and employment law.
  • Works with the HR Team, Managers, and Executives to develop strategies in motivating employees and creating a positive culture.
  • Maintains in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks, and ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Keeps the HR Manager informed of all possible legal risks and deviations from policy, including, but not limited to, offers of employment or lack thereof, lack of consistency between lines of business with policy enforcement, etc.
  • Maintains and updates as necessary all job descriptions to ensure compliance with ADA, EEOC, FLSA, FMLA, and CARF.
  • Administers all leaves (FMLA, STD, LTD, Leave of Absence Requests, etc.).
  • Ensures accuracy and completeness of benefit enrollment in HRIS to ensure all current and new employees have timely coverage.
  • Assists employees with benefit claim issues and plan changes resulting from life events.
  • Distributes all benefit enrollment materials and determines eligibility.
  • Responds to benefit inquiries from managers and employees on plan provisions, benefit enrollments, status changes and other general inquiries.
  • Audits monthly insurance billings for accuracy of employees covered, and communicates any additions, changes, and terminations to insurance broker.
  • Researches and makes recommendations for possible training that will maintain organizational compliance with CARF and changes in employment law.
  • Oversees the completion of required training in the organization.
  • Responds to request for information from the State of Michigan for unemployment claims.
  • Coordinates, tracks, and follows-up on performance evaluations.
  • Assists managers with facilitating internships/externships.
  • Assists in educating newly hired employees on HR policies, internal procedures, and regulations.
  • Oversees tracking of all licensing renewal for licensed staff, annual DMV checks for positions that require the essential function of driving.
  • Maintains thorough documentation and general recordkeeping of all employee files.
  • Administers all Workerโ€™s Comp claims and ensures they are filed timely with the carrier, ensures OSHA300 log is always current, that the 300A form is completed, signed by the CEO, and posted in all locations as required by law.
  • Assists with developing, updating and managing workflow procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

โ€‹โ€‹Qualifications and Education Requirementsโ€‹

  • Bachelorโ€™s Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Business Management or related field, required.
  • Two (2) years of experience working in the field of Human Resources, preferred.
  • SHRM or HRCI certification, preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds.
  • Must be able to perform repetitive tasks such as typing for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to clearly express and exchange ideas by means of spoken words to impart oral information to employees or others accurately or quickly, engaging in sometimes lengthy conversations or presentations.
  • Must be able to ascend and descend stairs daily.
  • Must be able to seize, hold, grasp, turn or otherwise work with your hand or hands.
  • Must be able to perceive sound by ear to interpret oral information from employees or others accurately or quickly.
  • Work will be performed in an office environment with fluctuating temperatures.
